"STRAWBERRY 2.0"

Every piece within The Strawberry Collection shares a common pulse: honoring my mother’s Mexican roots and the quiet sacrifices she made to bring home fresh fruit as a lasting reminder of self-worth. Yet as a visual artist exploring mixed-media painting across Salt Lake City and the greater Kansas City area, I constantly ask how memory shifts depending on the lens through which we view it.

"STRAWBERRY 2.0" explores childhood perception, nostalgia, and unfiltered imagination.

To a child, the world is saturated, tactile, and oversized. When painting this piece, I tapped into my earliest recollections of what strawberries looked like through my own eyes. Long before I grasped the financial sacrifice behind the fruit, I saw sheer wonder: bold red contours, distinctive textured seeds, vibrant green stems, and a vivid presence that felt larger than life.

Measuring 20" × 16" (1'8" × 1'4"), "STRAWBERRY 2.0" adapts the series into an intimate, portrait-oriented scale. It brings the viewer up close, merging tactile fine art techniques with the spontaneous energy of pop-contemporary expression. It captures that formative creative spark that first inspired me to become a painter.
